Due to short-circuit faults and other reasons, the line voltage will be greatly reduced or even disappeared in a short time. It can cause damage to wiring and electrical equipment. For example, the motor is fatigued and blocked, thereby generating an overcurrent that is several times the rated current, and the motor is burned out; when the voltage is restored, the self-starting of a large number of motors causes the voltage of the motor to be greatly reduced, causing a hazard.
The voltage that causes the motor to sink is called the threshold voltage. When the line voltage is reduced to the threshold voltage, the action of the protection device is called undervoltage protection, and its task is mainly to prevent the device from being burnt due to overload. When the voltage of this circuit is lower than the threshold voltage protection device, it is called voltage loss protection. Its main task is to prevent the motor from starting.
